Stake.com licence update 2025–2026: new Curaçao OGL, Denmark launch, and regulated-market push
Stake.com, operated by Medium Rare N.V., has spent 2025 and the first half of 2026 rewriting its regulatory footprint. The platform — one of the largest crypto-accepting online casinos by volume — has migrated to Curaçao’s overhauled direct-licensing regime, secured a five-year casino and sportsbook licence in Denmark, and added regulated-market approvals in Brazil, Peru, Colombia, and Mexico. The overall picture is one of deliberate expansion into supervised jurisdictions, though the core global product still runs under a Curaçao licence.

Curaçao: from sub-licence to direct OGL
Curaçao’s old model — where four private master-licence holders sold sub-licences to operators — ended in late 2024. The Curaçao Parliament passed the National Ordinance on Games of Chance (LOK) on 17 December 2024, and the law took force on 24 December 2024. Legacy NOOGH sub-licences remained valid until mid-2025, with a possible six-month extension, but new applications had to go through the Curaçao Gaming Authority (CGA) directly.
Stake completed this transition. Medium Rare N.V. now holds CGA licence OGL/2024/1451/0918, issued under the new framework. The OGL format (Online Gaming Licence) represents a direct CGA authorisation rather than a pass-through sub-licence — a meaningful upgrade in accountability. Under LOK, licensed operators are required to offer self-exclusion tools, deposit limits, and access to independent dispute resolution; annual B2C licence fees are set at €47,450.
For players, the practical check is straightforward: look for the OGL number in the site footer, then verify it against the CGA’s public register. An active OGL number means the operator is directly accountable to the regulator, not hidden several layers behind a master licensor.
Denmark: five-year licence from Spillemyndigheden
On 18 February 2026, Stake announced it had received a five-year online gambling licence from Spillemyndigheden, Denmark’s gambling authority. The licence covers both online casino games and sports betting through the Stake.dk domain, with full operations launching on 1 March 2026.
This move followed Stake’s acquisition, announced in January 2025, of MocinoPlay — the company behind Danish brand VinderCasino. Brais Pena, Chief Strategy Officer at Easygo (Stake’s technology parent), described Denmark as “one of Europe’s most mature and high-value markets.” Stake established its Danish headquarters inside Parken Stadium in Copenhagen, and signed a jersey sponsorship deal with esports organisation Astralis.
Denmark is a Tier-1 regulated market: Spillemyndigheden enforces responsible-gambling obligations, advertising standards, and player-fund protection rules comparable to the UK Gambling Commission and Malta Gaming Authority. A Danish licence therefore signals a higher compliance bar than a Curaçao OGL alone.
Regulated-market expansion across Latin America and beyond
Stake’s licensed-market portfolio has grown significantly since 2024:
- Brazil — Federal licence secured for the newly regulated market that opened on 1 January 2025, operated by Stake Brazil Ltda under the Ministério da Fazenda framework.
- Colombia — Operated via Stake Colombia SAS under Coljuegos (licence C1751), an established regulated jurisdiction.
- Peru — MINCETUR licences Nº4748-2024 and Nº4749-2024, secured in 2024.
- Mexico — Stake.mx operates via Producciones Móviles S.A. de C.V. under Dirección General de Juegos y Sorteos, added in early 2026.
What this means for players
Curaçao global players: The new OGL regime provides more structured protections than the old sub-licence system, but Curaçao remains a lighter-touch regulator compared to Malta, Denmark, or the UK. Dispute resolution is available but less robust than Tier-1 markets.
Players in Denmark: Stake.dk is fully within a regulated framework. Spillemyndigheden oversight means player funds, responsible gambling tools, and advertising are all locally regulated.
Latin American players: Players in Brazil, Colombia, Peru, and Mexico can access country-specific domains with local regulatory oversight.
Players in restricted countries: Stake operates geo-IP blocks and account restrictions to comply with local law. If your country is restricted, attempting to access the site via a VPN may breach the terms of service and can result in withheld winnings.
Note: There is no publicly available evidence that Stake holds or has applied for an Anjouan (Union of the Comoros) licence. The Anjouan Gaming licence is used by some operators as an alternative to Curaçao, but Stake’s current verified licences are the CGA OGL and the regulated-market approvals listed above.
